Characteristics
The Portuguese laurel - the plant grows on the Iberian Peninsula - is a slightly upright hedge, which can sometimes grow into a tree with multiple stems. The egg-shaped leaf has a red main vain and the young twigs have a red-brown colour. In June, white blossom in upright clusters.
Applications
Up until recently, the Portuguese laurel was mainly a solitary plant, but in the past few years, it has been used increasingly more often as a hedge plant. This laurel requires a somewhat sheltered location, since the extreme winter cold can cause damage. It responds well to pruning.
